Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean (CONCACAF) with 35 teams started competing for 3 or 4 berths and a playoff against CONMEBOL to determines which confederation gets the extra berth. The CONCACAF FIFA World Cup 2010 qualified are Mexico Fourth Round top 3 finish on October 10, 2009, United States Fourth Round top 3 finish on October 10, 2009 and Honduras Fourth Round third place on October 14, 2009.
The CONCACAF has 35 national teams competing for the three berths given automatically to CONCACAF by FIFA and the 4th place finisher will play a two game playoff with the CONMEBOL 5th place finisher for their possible 4th berth.
The 1st and 2nd rounds cut down the 35 entrants to twenty four and twelve teams. Then, the surviving twelve teams were placed into three 3rd round groups of four. The best two soccer teams in each group advancing to the 4th and final qualification group. The third and final round, the leading three soccer teams from the fourth round group of six will qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2010. But for the fourth ranked team will compete in a home and away playoff over the 5th place team from CONMEBOL to have a chance to qualify as 2010 FIFA World Cup team to play this coming June 11 up to July 11, 2010.
