A total number of 205 teams including with South Africa as the host ( automatically qualified ) enter in the qualification process and only 32 teams were survived and able to play in 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The qualification process started in August 2007 and was completed in November 2009.

Africa (CAF)  with 53 teams started in the qualification process and completing for 5 berths plus the host South Africa occupying a 6th berth .Qualification procedure started with a preliminary round gamed on October 13 and November 17, 2009 to narrow the field to 48 teams and then 12 groups of 4 teams were drawn in Durban in November 2007.

Asia (AFC) with 43 teams completing for 4 or 5 berths and a playoff against OFC determines which confederation gets the extra berth.

The AFC FIFA World Cup 2010 qualified are Japan earned AFC Fourth Round Group A Runner-up on June 6, 2009, Australia claimed AFC Fourth Round Group A Winner  on June 6, 2009, Korea Republic group B winner Fourth Round on June 6, 2009 and Korea DPR Group B Runner-up AFC Fourth Round on June 17, 2009.

Europe (UEFA) with 53 teams competing for 13 berths. The UEFA FIFA World Cup 2010 qualified are Netherlands Group 9 winner on June 6, 2009, England Group 6 winner on Sept. 9, 2009, Spain Group 5 winner on Sept. 9, 2009, Germany Group 4 winners on Oct. 10, 2009, Denmark Group 1 winners on Oct. 10, 2009, Serbia Group 7 winners on Oct. 10, 2009, Italy Group 8 winners on Oct. 10, 2009 , Switzerland Group 2 winners on Oct. 14, 2009, Slovakia Group 3 winners on Oct. 14, 2009, Greece Play-off winners on November 18, 2009, Slovenia Play-off winners on Nov. 18, 2009, Portugal Play-off winners on Nov. 18, 2009 and France Play-off winners on Nov. 18, 2009.

North, Central America and Caribbean (CONCACAF) with 35 teams started competing for 3 or 4 berths and a playoff against CONMEBOL to determines which confederation gets the extra berth. The CONCACAF FIFA World Cup 2010 qualified are Mexico Fourth Round top 3 finish on Oct. 10, 2009, United States Fourth Round top 3 finish on Oct. 10, 2009 and Honduras Fourth Round third place on Oct. 14, 2009.

Oceania (OFC) with 10 teams competing for 0 or 1 berth and a playoff against AFC determines which confederation gets the extra berth. OFC FIFA World Cup 2010 qualified is New Zealand OFC v AFC Play-off winners on Nov. 14, 2009.

South America (CONMBOL) with 10 teams competing for 4 or 5 berths and a playoff against CONCAF determines which confederation get the extra berth. The CONMBOL FIFA World Cup 2001 qualified are Brazil top 4 finish on Sept. 5, 2009, Paraguay top 4 finish on Sept. 9, 2009, Chile top 4 finish on Oct. 10, 2009, Argentina fourth place on Oct. 14, 2009 and Uruguay CONMEBOL v CONCACAF play-off winners on Nov. 18, 2009
